The NICEIC Certification Energy Efficiency Award for Domestic Heating Installers
is equivalent to the City & Guilds 6084 Energy Efficiency qualification.
This award has been approved by CORGI, the Energy Savings Trust and the Heating and
Hot Water Information Council.
The training and assessment has been designed to comply with the requirements of
Approved Document L1 of the Building Regulations.
The training material used on the course is provided by Renewtech by email before
the course commences.
Why do I need to be qualified?
The changes to Part L1 of Building Regulations which came into effect in April 2005
mean that heat producing appliances and system upgrades should meet the appropriate
requirements.
New boilers and system upgrades ( i.e. when installing a new hot water cylinder)
should be installed by a ‘competent person' registered with a building regulations
scheme operator or signed off by building control of the local authority.
The objectives for this course are to create awareness and understanding of the need
to adopt energy efficiency measures and to provide a practical framework to promote
energy efficiency options to consumers. The course also ensures that holders of the
qualification have knowledge and understanding of practical solutions to improve
energy efficiency performance and to ensure that they have a detailed knowledge and
understanding of Building Regulation L1 and other related constraints which support
energy efficiency.
Additional subject areas covered are the benefits of efficient heating and hot water
systems, energy efficiency and the Building Regulations and the importance of heating
and hot water controls. Finally, the course covers the commissioning and handover
of heating and hot water systems.
