What is the Solar Thermal Hot Water Course and who would benefit?

The Solar Thermal training is designed to provide experienced heating and plumbing engineers the necessary skills for basic design, installation, commission and service of Solar Thermal Hot Water systems and deliver a certificate of competence to individuals who will self-certify installations through NICEIC (or other government scheme operators).  

All the NICEIC Environmental and Related Technologies courses have been developed around a modular approach to minimise disruption to installers, and maximise the benefit to installers;

Areas covered include:-

Basic Design

 Relevant Regulations and Legislation

 Collector Types

 Design Layouts

 Pre-survey Techniques and Installation Practices

 Commissioning and Service

 Fault Finding and Controls

Pre-Requisites

Candidates will need to posses:-

A  recognized competence in a conventional fuel i.e. gas, oil, or solid fuel or a relevant plumbing qualification such as an NVQ level 2 or equivalent experience

 A certificate of competence under G3 for Unvented Hot water

 A WRAS approved water regulations qualification

 An energy efficiency qualification issued by a 17024 UKAS accredited body

 NICEIC Working at Heights, CoSHH and Manual Handling qualifications, or similar IOSH, NEBOSH or PASMA.

Note: All prerequisites are available via the network of NICEIC Approved centres.

Although some qualifications may be added after the course it is recommended that Unvented and Water Regs are completed prior to the course.


Candidate Requirements

Examination

The examination is Open Book Multiple Choice on Solar Thermal Theory.

Practical Assessment with written answers (Open Book)


Course Duration

This is a three day course including assessment.   START 8:30   FINISH 16:30 approx.

Unit 5, Newhaven Enterprise Centre, Denton Island, Newhaven, East Sussex BN9 9BA.


Certification

Successful candidates are awarded the NICEIC Solar Thermal Certificate.  Approved by UKAS for MCS certification.

Certificates are valid for a period of 5 years.
